The Rural Science Association is a nascent professional organisation which comprises individuals from all parts of Ireland (generally residing in rural areas) who hold or are currently studying to obtain a formal qualification in the discipline of Rural Development.

The Organisation was formally launched at our inaugural conference which was held in May 2008.

In addition to its inaugural conference, the Rural Science Association has, to date, organised two weekend workshops which sought to act as 'think tanks' on how to progress rural development in the emerging 'new economy'. As the Rural Science Association grows and matures, it envisages roles representing public interests, highlighting rural issues, stimulating discussions, forming opinions and providing networking opportunities in line with the needs and interests of its members.

The Membership currently comprises graduates and students from the 4 NUI Colleges,Tipperary Institute and from Queens University, Belfast. It is an objective of the Rural Science Association to build an association which will, ultimately attract Graduates/Students in the discipline from colleges within the 32 counties which will combine the talents and expertise gained by professionals and practitioners who operate 'at the coalface' of rural development with the academics who are delivering the courses - joined up thinking at a very practical level.
