Website Challenge

The Rural Science Association was chosen to be part of DrupalCamp Ireland web building challenge. The event took place on the 4th and 5th April 2009 in DERI, NUI Galway who were sponsoring the event along with 101 professional web development, Dublin & London and Annertech, Dublin. The Rural Science Association was represented by Helene Dooley, Mairead Rohan, Paddy Fitzpatrick, Bernard Joyce and Dermot Leavy.

Drupal is a powerful open source content management system which allows users to easily publish, manage and share a wide variety of content on the internet.

Over fifty organisations, charities and NGOs from Ireland applied to participation in the Drupal nGo competition and the two winners were:

Rural Science Association
Zikomo Ireland

Two teams assigned to each group consisted of designers, site builders, theme developers, trainers and mentors. The sprint challenge was an excellent way for IT wizards to get involved with community organisations and make a meaningful contribution to the Drupal project. The event was lead and overseen by Addison Berry, head of Drupal’s documentation team who came from the US to be in attendance.

Participating in this event provided the Rural Science Association with a state of the art website free of charge. It also gave the committee members an opportunity to work along with advanced Drupal developers to build the website in a comfortable and fun environment. The team consisted of:
