Why not cut out the middle man

I just wonder is merely demanding viable prices from retailers and processor itself a viable stance for the IFA to take. Is it likely that retailers or processors will capitualate to pressue from farm groups given the present economic climate and the availability of cheap imports. Perhaps there is an urgency for the farming movement and particularly the dairy sector to be more innovative. I got an email about a business being set up that presents an opportunity for farmers to sell milk directly to consummers via vending machines or by home delivery. The company claims that it can help farmers increase their revenue from milking by 300%. Are there other innovations that will help the farmer get his product directly to market without the middle man having to have his cut.
There is a challenge for all of us involved in Rural Development to promote and highlight the importance of innovation.
